A few weeks ago, a member of the DiS message-boards thought it’d be fun to find out what our community’s favourite album is. The voting happened, here in a thread full of the usual irreverent ‘banter’, and now the results are in.
A lot of the records in the list (My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, The National) were somewhat predictable. It was hardly a shock to see The Beatles and The Smiths made it either. I was quite surprised, given the communities love of electronic music that the genre wasn’t really represented, but then again, I think a lot of people posted lists to show off their electric tastes and to turn people on to smaller releases, whilst others opted for tactical votes. Everyone had a different idea of what they were voting for, and why they were doing it, which perhaps leads to a predictable answer, but nonetheless, it was interesting to see what the voting spat out.
I found it a little surprising how few of my picks (below) made it onto the list, but then it’s hardly surprising to discover that some popular stuff rose to the top. I never set out to run a site that only appeals to people with the same taste as me, and the diversity and knowledge of the DiS community is what makes it such a vibrant place.
