SoMa-Based StumbleUpon Provides a “Forward Button” for Discovery on the Internet | 7x7 (via david-noel)
I wonder if I can get away with that when we relaunch DiS in October for our 11th Anniversary? Stumbleupon is about the same age as DiS and we may only have half a million users, compared with their 15million but, yuhknow, some people just need a buzztag to hang a feature around. We’re not even a teenager but then no-one has really defined ‘internet years’, so I guess we could actually be a OAP, driving at 30mph in the fast lane of the super-highway…
Then again, I’ve always preferred the analogy of bands-as-startups, and, in some of not-so finest hours, described DiS as being like The National and Animal Collective, whose success came after a numbers of years, many releases and lotsa grafting. Which I guess is better than just denying your past, changing your name and being some hip new buzzband/startup. Then again, there’s always my Postal Service-like side-project, waiting in the wings [insert VC cash here]
