Blogging since 1996.
I’ve spent July in America, on the west coast, somewhat disconnected from the internet due to driving and terrible 3G “cell” coverage. I’ve read more magazines than blogs and tuned into more radio than I have in years.
From magazines I’ve discovered that my 16yr old internal lesbian side is strong because I love Bust and find Nylon Guys too dumb to ever excite me and that if it was more like Huck, it could be my favourite mag. Have also learnt that the aftershocks of blog-buzz are stronger than ever, with mags covering more and more artists in the hope of competing with the comprehensive nature of the web but in doing so, they replace in-depth, agenda-driving editorial with pithy bits about relevant bands. From the radio I discovered that Bush are back, and that Rossdale and co. have a new album - I haven’t seen anyone discussing this online?!
Meanwhile, I’ve been kept “in touch” by reading DiS (which is odd but it’s kinda like that scene in Fight Club where they realise they birthed an organism that lives and grows on its own), whilst compiling DiS’ 10th anniversary editorial which kicks off a week on Monday for 10 weeks of exploring the past 10 years. Here’s some bits from the best of what we’ve covered on the site this month, you’ll find most of them reviewed in our recommended records section or in the singles columns…
